Jamie Baum, though originally from Connecticut, is a NYC-based jazz flutist/composer, recording artist/clinician has toured extensively in the US, Europe, Japan, South America and South Asia performing at festivals, clubs and concert halls. Receiving much critical praise for two CD's as a leader, Sight Unheard on Gunther Schuller's GM Recordings received four stars from Down Beat. Her long-awaited third CD, Moving Forward, Standing Still featuring her Septet has been recorded and is due out this year on the Omnitone label.
Baum's performed with luminaries ranging from Kenny Werner, Tom Harrell, Fred Hersch, Donald Brown, and Randy Brecker to Dave Douglas, Uri Caine, Paul Motian, George Russell, Mick Goodrick, V. M. Bhat and Karaikudi Mani. Adept at performing jazz standards as well as originals, Baum is involved in several projects aside from her own and often freelances playing other styles including classical, new music, Brazilian and Latin music.
A winner of several Down Beat Critics and Readers Polls, several grants and awards, Ms. Baum was also chosen in '99, '01 and '02 by the US State Department/Kennedy Center Jazz Ambassador Program to tour extensively in South America, India and South Asia. She was recently awarded a grant by the Sate Department to help fund her quartet to perform at the 2003 Kathmandu Jazz Festival (Nepal).
